Die Wyntenke – 6-24 guests
Die Wyntenke, Bonnievale’s first wine cellar established in 1918, has been beautifully restored to host larger groups while retaining its rustic charm. Located 400 meters from the river, it offers five double and twin rooms, three of which are ensuite. Guests can enjoy a spacious open-plan kitchen and living area, plus a cozy outdoor braai area. Perfect for both big gatherings and intimate retreats, Die Wyntenke promises a delightful stay with home-baked treats that evoke fond memories.
Die Houthous – 2-16 guests
Die Houthuis is a charming rustic retreat where even the toughest hair products can’t hold up. Established in 1968 from an old school building bought for R400, it opened in 1970 with potjiekos and dancing, quickly becoming a social hotspot. Located by the river, this wooden hall accommodates 2 to 16 guests in a dormitory-style setting, with camping options available. Inside, it features a spacious area with a cozy fireplace and an open kitchen.
The well-stocked kitchen can get warm due to the low ceiling, but a sprinkler system provides quick relief. Outside, guests can enjoy a braai area, canoes, tractor tubes, a raft, and a foefie slide that has delighted visitors since 1980. If you prefer a communal vibe over modern conveniences, Die Houthuis is the perfect destination.
Snoozers Cottage – 1-6 guests
A Snoozer’s Cottage is situated just 200 meters from the river, featuring its own jetty along with a picnic and braai area right by the water. Guests can also enjoy canoes, tractor tubes, and a Tarzan swing for some fun.
This cozy retreat accommodates up to six adults and a child or two, with additional ‘Budget Rooms’ available for any extra guests. The decor is an eclectic blend of vintage and contemporary styles, and the architecture is quite simple. The cottage is next to the welcoming home of your host, Ronelle, who assures everyone that it’s not a problem at all.
