LOZÄRN WINES

Lozärn Wines – A Taste of Heritage in Every Sip
Nestled on Doornbosch Farm in the heart of the Breede River Valley, Lozärn Wines tells a family story that spans three continents and four generations. Named in honour of Kathleen “Kay” Smuts—an adventurous matriarch whose roots trace from Europe to South Africa—the estate pays tribute to her pioneering spirit and love of farming.
Established in 1923 and inspired by Kay’s fond memories of Lucerne, Switzerland, the family farm grew from humble duck farming to a boutique wine destination. Today, the Smuts family continues her legacy, crafting elegant wines with a focus on Bordeaux-style red blends and celebrating rare varietals.
The beautifully designed Lozärn label, featuring a duck skeleton, nods to Kay’s early farming days and the rich heritage behind each bottle. Visitors can experience this unique blend of history, family tradition, and premium winemaking in every glass.
Lozärn is especially known for its innovative approach, including being one of the first in South Africa to bottle the rare red varietal, Carménère. Guests are welcome to explore the estate by appointment and enjoy a curated tasting experience surrounded by vineyards and scenic valley views. Each vintage is a tribute to resilience, craftsmanship, and a deep connection to the land. From vine to glass, every detail reflects a story worth savouring. Lozärn Wines – where legacy meets the land, and every bottle uncorks a journey.
