At Just Amy restaurant you will certainly feel at home, with excellent service and delicious food – you can either sit under the shade of our beautiful pecan nut trees or inside where it is nice and cozy. Just Amy is open for breakfast, lunch & dinner (dinner on reservation), we do offer wine tastings as well where you can just sit and relax while enjoying our quality wines at your own pace.
Where did Just Amy Restaurant come from?
Jan Harmsgat’s history dates back to the early 1700s, with roots tracing to Johannes Harman Jansz Potgieter, born on the farm in 1674 beneath the Langeberg Mountains. The property was officially recorded in 1723 as Jan Harmansz Schat (“treasure”), later evolving into the name Jan Harmsgat. Over the centuries, the farm changed hands between notable families and played a role in local history, including connections to Hermanus Steyn, president of the short-lived Republic of Swellendam in 1795, who is buried on the estate.
Originally a thriving wine farm, Jan Harmsgat later became renowned for its citrus orchards after vineyards were replaced with orange trees, earning a reputation for exceptional produce. The historic wine cellar, slave quarters, and Cape Dutch architecture have been carefully preserved and restored, reflecting the estate’s rich heritage.
Today, the 680-hectare working farm combines history, agriculture, and hospitality.

At Jan Harmsgat, we focus on crafting single-block wines that reflect a specific place, season, and vineyard. A single block is the smallest production unit in our vineyards, never exceeding six hectares per cultivar, allowing us to work with precision and intention, and to capture each block’s unique expression.
Established in 1723, Jan Harmsgat Farm lies at the southernmost edge of the Robertson Wine Valley, where the arid influence of the Karoo meets cooling coastal breezes from the south. Our vineyards are planted along the foothills of the Langeberg Mountains, with an east-to-west orientation that supports balanced ripening and natural freshness.
Sauvignon Blanc 2025
This Sauvignon Blanc showcases vibrant aromas of gooseberry, lime, and green fig. It’s well balanced and expressive, with a fuller body and ripe fruit character typical of a warm climate.
Chardonnay 2025
Grown at the foot of the Langeberg Mountains, this Chardonnay shows fresh aromas of citrus blossom, white peach, and green apple. The palate is lively and crisp, finishing clean and balanced
Chenin Blanc 2025
Bright and expressive, our Chenin Blanc captures the generous sunshine and clean air of the Robertson–Swellendam corridor. Notes of crisp apple and white pear unfold into hints of honey and stone fruit.
Pinot Noir 2022
Light and soft in style, this elegant red shows a gentle tannin structure and a smooth, refined texture. On the palate, fresh notes of dark cherries and strawberries come through, balanced by a subtle earthiness that adds depth and character.
Shiraz 2021
Despite its youth, this Shiraz is smooth and inviting, with ripe dark fruit and warming spice at the fore. Hints of white pepper add lift, while juicy, supple tannins keep the palate rich yet fresh. Spicy and fruit driven in style, it’s drinking well now and will age gracefully for another year or two.
Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Rich and expressive Cabernet aromas of cassis and blackberries carry through to the palate, where ripe, pure fruit takes center stage. A balance of vibrant freshness and deep concentration makes it enjoyable now, while the variety’s firm, well-structured tannins promise graceful aging for years to come.
Pinotage 2021
A modern take on Pinotage - lush and vibrant with ripe blackberries and blackcurrants, accented by a subtle hint of oak spice. The sweet, succulent fruit makes it instantly enjoyable, while the variety’s dense yet well-integrated tannins provide both structure and aging potential.
